So I might be outside of the Lady Gaga demographic but with all her great press, I figure her entourage is on the ball and collecting email addresses like crazy.  I search Google for ‘Lady Gaga website’ to find the official site.

I find it all right but I don’t see an easy way to sign up for a newsletter or updates even though her description tag states ‘Get the latest News, Photos, Video, Tour Dates and more.’

But if I dig, this is what i find.

At the bottom of the page, i can ‘win the ultimate telephone prize pack.’  I love a promotion as part of the email marketing campaign as well as the next guy so I click to sign up.

Now it starts to look familiar.

It’s a SWEEPSTAKES.  Great marketing campaign!

AND it’s got the faddish invite friends to get you to spam your facebook friends into signing up also.  I decline, but love the motivation.

Finally,

A sign up form that connects the dots between the offer in Google search and me. I was only after “Get the latest News, Photos, Video, Tour Dates and more.” and now my life is whole.  I am there.

BUT, I had to go through a SWEEPSTAKES to get to it.

My advice, either run a sweepstakes or offer “Get the latest News, Photos, Video, Tour Dates and more.” but don’t switch between the two.

You see, people actually read what you write and do what you ask.  Don’t mix and match.

I wonder how many fans don’t get to sign up because they don’t connect the dots on their own.
