I’ve been getting lots of questions about email autoresponders lately.  It seems like there is a lot of mystery about what they are and how they work.

Have you ever sent an email message to someone and received an ‘Out Of Office Reply?”

If so, then you have received an automatic message–an autoresponder.  A piece of software automatically sent the message to every email message that arrives in the inbox.  Sometimes the email autoresponder is simple and sometimes there are some details in the message.

That’s an example of a most basic autoresponder.

Now think of this.  What if you wanted to send a confirmation message out to everyone who placed an order with you.  You would set up an email autoresponder in your ecommerce system.

You have created a one message autoresponder.

The real power comes from setting up an email autoresponder with MORE THAN ONE MESSAGE SET TO BE DELIVERED AT DIFFERENT TIME INTERVALS.

You might set up a message to go out immediately, then another 1 day later, then another 3 days later, then another 7 days later, and finally another 10 days later.

You are able to set up emails to go out to help you with your marketing efforts–even when you aren’t at your desk.

And that is the power of autoresponders.  You can be building a better relationship with someone via the power of your messages.
